John Vanderslice
San Francisco's John Vanderslice has been singer/songwriting his way across the dusty plains with an acoustic guitar strapped to his back and only a hat to shield him from the wind. He writes enchantingly lyrical, guitar-driven pop songs with a twinge of twang.
Vanderslice made a grand introduction to the scene opening for Sunny Day Real Estate on two of their U.S. tours. Since then he's developed a strong following and has become extremely well respected within the music community. In 1997, Vanderslice opened Tiny Telephone, a small recording studio that serves as an affordable outlet for San Francisco area musicians short on cash.
His most recent album Cellar Door was highly praised for its spectacular production values and its delightful and desperate tales. Here's hoping he has many more tales to tell.
