Take us away, Fujiya and Miyagi!

May 9, 2007
Fujiya and Miyagi rock the tender electro-pop similar to our friends, Hot Chip. (Disclaimer: we are not really friends with Hot Chip, as they are a famous band and we have a hard enough time getting non-famous people to be friends with us.) Float over to The Echo and check out this breezy show. Ahhhhhhh.

Yoinks! This trio isnt from Japan, they're just "pretending to be Japanese," according to the chorus of their song "Photocopier." Thats so silly! Hell, if half their name is taken from their love of the Karate Kid, well, that alone would make a fan out of me.

F and M are actually from Brighton, England (yoinks!), and Pat "how come you not hurt hand" Morita and Daniel with an L aside, they're definitely down with those sweet electro samples and beats. This is easy-going disco-Kraut-funk that is catchy and sometimes goofy (I believe I heard a "Sock it to me!" at least once). Torment is not in their repertoire.

The bands influences vary from Can to Brian Eno to Sly and the Family Stone and Aphex Twin. Fujiya & Miyagi are a good time. I'd play them at a dance party if I had a big enough apartment... and any friends.

Fujiya and Miyagi play The Echo, on Thursday, May 17th.
