The 5 Best Shows in LA This Week

There are a lot of really good shows this week. It was really tough picking just 5 of them to highlight. But through sheer grit, elbow grease, and good old American determination we somehow managed to succeed.
Put it this way. Did Beck’s two shows make this list?
They did not.
#1. Karen O - Amoeba + Hollywood Forever - T/W/Th/Fri - September 16/17/18/19 - 2014 A.D.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Karen O plays four shows this week (one of them free) and they will all feature special guests and it will probably be amazing because Karen O has been slinging art since 2000. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
#2. Alex G - The Echo - Wednesday - September 17th - 2014 A.D.
Alex G (who might be billed as Sandy Alex G now - I will check my sources right after I'm done writing this and sending it out to all of you) is a really good lo-fi folk pop guy. He’s a riser, man. A riser. And if he keeps at the goodness, he’ll continue to soar at heights only the boldest eagles and angels dare fly. Fin.
*also playing this show are Los Angeles Police Department - you should get into them too - and I should mind my own business
#3. Hot Snakes - Alex’s Bar - Thursday - September 18th - 2014 A.D.
A Hot Snakes show is clearly one of the funnest things to do in the world. Why would you miss this one? They have recently reunited and it feels so good and everything. Don’t you like perfect garage punk? Don’t hold out for Drive Like Jehu, man. That was a one time thing. Your perfect garage punk band is here and they're real and they’re spectacular.
#4. Neutral Milk Hotel - Hollywood Bowl - Thursday - September 18th - 2014 A.D.
Mangum! Mangum! Mangum! I have heard from very credible Music Industry sources that people have fond feelings for this band. The reason is unclear but it appears to be because Neutral Milk Hotel have some really exquisite songs and the best of them just might be poetic masterpieces. Or, it could just be because Mangum is a very fun word to say. Go ahead. Try it. Mangum. Mangum. Mangum.

#5. CHVRCHES - Palladium + Tower Theatre - Fri/Sat - September 19/20 - 2014 A.D.
We told yov two years ago this synthpop band was going to be hvge. Were we right? Vmm. Vndovbtedly definitely. Yov will have an vnbelievable time at this show. I know this mvch is trve.
