BAND WE LIKE: HOST FAMILY ((lush shoegaze/indie/noise))
((Mahjongg)) Band Profile and Upcoming Los Angeles Concerts - Oh My Rockness
Mahjongg
These cryptic Chicagoans are the latest to try their hand at the dance-punk funk thing. More akin to Dub Narcotic Sound System than The Rapture, Mahjongg create messy polyrhythms using twisted synth sounds, crackling feedback, and just generally fucked up background spazz outs.
They're a highly innovative concept band with complex compositions that make for gratifying, if not immediately accessible, listening. They've shared a split with Dance Disaster Movement, which solidifies their place in the DFA club, and have toured with heavies like Pretty Girls Make Graves, Franz Ferdinand and The Constantines.
Mahjongg will get you dancing. And only much later, during your comedown, will you wonder how the hell they pulled it off.
