BAND WE LIKE: SCREEN FROGS ((Psychness in Seattle))
((New Black)) Band Profile and Upcoming Los Angeles Concerts - Oh My Rockness
New Black
Chicago's New Black play melodic, female/male-fronted punk that sounds like Pretty Girls Make Graves meets Q and Not U meets The B-52s. This band is catchy as hell, just quirky enough to be interesting, and complex enough to warrant repeat listens.
Sparring guitars are no doubt the main focus of this infectious band, but New Black also incorporates highly danceable beats, sexy synth rhythms, and bouncy bass lines. Dual singers Liam Kimball and Patti Gran trade vocal jabs over keyboardist Rachel Shindelman's and drummer Nick Kraska's tight syncopated attack. It's mighty easy to like this band.
