They Shoot Horses Don't They
I immediately recognized They Shoot Horses Don't They? as the title of the classic 1969 tear-jerker film starring the incomparable Jane Fonda. Yeah, so I watch tear-jerkers... but mostly just those that involve horses... The Horse Whisperer... Black Beauty... Black Stallion... Hot to Trot.
But in this case, They Shoot Horses Don't They? is also an eight-piece band from Vancouver, Canada. They play eccentro-pop that's heavy on the horns. Their strange sound made them the perfect tour mates for Xiu Xiu and The Unicorns (or I guess, "Islands" now).
Their debut, Boo Hoo Hoo Boo (tearjerker, remember?) was just released on Kill Rock Stars and can been compared to Captain Beefheart meets an even more wacky Black Mountain.
