Written by Patrick McNamara

There are a bunch of good shows this month.

But these 40 are the best ones.

Please note: the numerical value assigned is based on the date on the show / not how dope it is.

All 40 of these shows are equally dope.

Forever and Ever.

Amen.

40 Good Shows To See in LA This May

1. Okkervil River play Bootleg Theater on Tuesday, May 2nd (tickets)

Okkervil River is a good band. You heard it here 140th.

*frontman Will Sheff wrote one of the best live concert reviews I've ever read

2. Sorority Noise play The Hi Hat on Wednesday, May 3rd (tickets)

This is my current favorite song.

Thank you for listening.

3. Charly Bliss play The Echo on Friday, May 5th (tickets)

NYC's Charly Bliss play fuzzy alt pop rock.

They're super sticky... like sugar... or bubblegum... or delicious maple syrup from the dankest 🌲.

Many of the leading alt music blobs are calling their debut album Guppy of the best records of 2017 A.D.

Trust the blobs!

4. Feist plays The Palace Theatre on Friday, May 5th (tickets) / Saturday, May 6th (tickets) / Sunday, May 7th (tickets)

🎶 1-2-3-4

5. The Flaming Lips play The Theatre at Ace on Thursday, May 9th

Tell everybody
Waitin' to buy tickets to this
That they should try to
Hold on
Best they can
He hasn't dropped them
Forgot them
Or anything
It's just too sold-out for Superman to lift

6. PJ Harvey plays The Greek Theatre on Friday, May 12th (tickets)

This is the #10 most popular upcoming show.

Everybody save it and let's get it to #1.

Because PJ Harvey rules.

7. Tiny Moving Parts play The Regent Theater on Friday, May 12th (tickets)

In the humble opinion of this music blob, Minnesota's Tiny Moving Parts are one of the best math-emo-punk bands out there.

If you like this song (spoiler: you will) listen to the whole album. There's more jams where this comes from.

8. Grandaddy play The Fonda Theatre on Friday, May 12th

Veteran Modest indie rockers Grandaddy recently released their first album in 11 years.

Go see them play songs from it (and hopefully some "Sophtware Slump" classic cuts too).

Grandaddy rules. Forever.

9. Thurston Moore Group play Teragram Ballroom on Saturday, May 13th (tickets)

Can't remember what band this dude was in before this one.

...

10. Woods play Teragram Ballroom on Thursday, May 18th (tickets)

Woods: ruling the eccentro pop scene since 2005 A.D.

11. DIIV play The Observatory on Friday, May 19th (tickets)

Hiighly suggest you get tiickets to thiis.

A miighty fiine band to see on a Friiday niight in May.

Come for the jiingles. Stay for the swiirls.

12. The Jesus & Mary Chain play The Wiltern on Friday, May 19th (tickets)

A loud band from Scotland.

Hit Movies The Year Jesus & Mary Chain Were Born:

Return of the Jedi / Flashdance / Scarface / Wargames (how about a nice game of chess, bro?) / Risky Business / Superman III (see also: heist plot of Office Space)

13. U2 play Rose Bowl on Saturday May 20th (tickets) and Sunday, May 21st (tickets)

U2 is an up-and-coming band from Ireland.

14. Nite Jewel plays The Getty on Saturday, May 20th

Nite Jewel rules.

So does a full summer's worth of free shows at The Getty.

Kick off this super series in a sweet style.

Come for the beats. Stay for the beats.

15. Girlpool play Teragram Ballroom on Tuesday, May 23rd (tickets)

Here's the thing about Girlpool.

They rule.

16. Midnight Oil play The Wiltern on Thursday, May 25th (tickets)

Midnight Oil's first NYC shows in a million years!

The legendary Australian band (born-on-date: the '70s) can rock easy knowing their fans on the other side of the world haven't forgotten them because both of these shows at Webster Hall sold-out super fast, so I hope for your sake you already have your tickets or you have the disposable probably income required to get tickets here or you don't care. Just please be happy!

Also, it would be pretty hard to sleep when your bed was burning. I don't know how people could do it.

17. Brian Wilson plays Pantages Theatre on Friday, May 26th (tickets) / Saturday, May 27th (tickets)

Love me some Brian Wilson...but I dunno...don't you think he's ripping off early Animal Collective a bit?

18. Modest Mouse play Fox Theater Pomona on Sunday, May 28th

"Everything that keeps me together is falling apart!"

19. Fartbarf play Alex's Bar on Saturday, May 27th (tickets)

Because with a name like Fartbarf it's gotta be good!

20. Bjork plays Walt Disney Concert Hall on Tuesday, May 30th

SOLD. OUT. INSTANTLY.

BJORK.

FOREVER.

(try getting $500+ tickets here maybe)
