Air: Influential French Electronic Duo

Greek Theatre (Los Angeles, CA)

French electronic duo Air bring their atmospheric soundscapes to the Greek Theatre. Nicolas Godin and Jean-BenoƮt Dunckel first hit it big with their debut album, "Moon Safari", and its hit single "Sexy Boy," which paved the way for the burgeoning downtempo genre. They came to even greater attention when Sofia Coppola tapped them to compose the moody soundtrack for "The Virgin Suicides". Drawing on everyone from Kraftwerk and Brian Eno to Philip Glass to the Beatles and Pink Floyd, Air have created an influential sound of their own, sometimes called "space rock." Last year, the duo released a retrospective collection, "Twentyears", and now Godin and Dunckel are coming to Los Angeles to play a night of their best-known tracks. Lo Moon opens the show.

Throughout the many lives of Natalie Merchant -- as lead singer of 10,000 Maniacs in the '80s, as the platinum-plated solo act in the '90s, as one of the new millennium's most ambitious and avant-garde musicians -- one thing has remained the same: her uncompromising artistry. With a voice that quivers with a rare emotional intensity (and intelligence), Merchant inflects every song with poetry and power, lifting hits like "Because the Night," "Carnival," "Wonder" and "Jealousy" to the level of art. Now this consummate artist appears live at the Greek Theatre.
