2. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart at Teragram Ballroom on Wednesday, September 27th.

This indie pop band (led by Kip Berman) has been slinging the underground hits since 2007 A.D.

Consistency in quality. That's The Pains.

Go hear them play songs from their excellent new album The Echo of Pleasure.

RIYL: good bands!

3. Battles at The Roxy on Thursday, September 28th.

I'd go to war* with this band any damn day of the week.

To get you pumped for this epic instrumental show of math-rockian proportions please blast this stone classic Battles cut below yeah!

*provided it was a Nerf war within the confines of a responsible person's backyard and light refreshments were served after

4. Widowspeak at The Sanctuary at Pico-Union on Thursday, September 28th.

If you like good bands who write good songs, you should get into Widowspeak at your earliest convenience.

If you don't like good bands who write good songs, forget it.

*Chicago's Clearance plays this show too -- also a good band!

**what's our vector, Victor

5. Ride at Hollywood Forever Cemetery on Friday, September 29th.

UK shoegaze legends!

If you somehow missed out on Ride's goodness in the '80s/'90s/'00s/'10s that's OK. It's never too late.

Start here and here.

And then blast their new jam below because this band's still got it.

6. Television at Teragram Ballroom on Friday, September 29th.

Speaking of legends....

7. The Shins at The Greek Theatre on Friday, September 29th.

Come for The Shins for sure and maybe Foxygen.

But be nice to yourself and be sure to get there early for Day Wave.

Dude's jams = legit chill.

8. Andrew W.K. at The Regent Theater on Friday, September 29th.

Andrew W.K. rules.

Party always.

Party forever.

Party amen.

9. Interpol at El Rey Theatre on Thursday, September 28 and Los Angeles Historic Park on Saturday, September 30th.

Hard to believe Turn on the Bright Lights came out 15 years ago. Seems like only yesterday I left my urge in the icebox.

See Interpol play that stone classic in full at Los Angeles Historic Park and/or the El Rey* this week.

15 years. Damn.

*good luck getting tickets to the tiny El Rey show although where there's a will there's a pay

**on a related note, if you haven't read Lizzy Goodman's excellent book Meet Meet In The Bathroom you need to get on that.

*** If Interpol was still stuck in their tour bus by the side of the road in that Buffalo snowstorm they'd be stuck there 1047 days by now.

10. Music Tastes Good in Long Beach on Saturday, September 30th / Sunday, October 1st.

Music Tastes Good is one of the very best festivals you'll find in the area the rest of this year (along with these).

Who's playing this two day goodness in Long Beach this year? SO GLAD YOU ASKED.

Sleater-Kinney (!) * Alvvays * Ride (remember them?) * Ween * Of Montreal * Joyce Manor * Dr. Octagon * Digable Planets * SO MANY MORE SOLID PEEPS.

You should hit up this one. For sure.

The xx at The Forum

Christopher Owens (of Girls) at The Echo

Sean Nicholas Savage at Bootleg Theater

Best Coast / Paramore at The Greek Theatre
