20 Good Shows To See in LA This Week!

October 3rd - October 9th / 2017 A.D.

1. Sheer Mag at The Hi Hat on Tuesday, October 3rd and The Echo on Wednesday, October 4th.

Sheer Mag is a scratchy messy pretty band straight outta Philly that combines dirty rock riffs with crushed up classic glam melodies.

Their music is raw, noisy, and so satisfyingly sing-able.

This Is.

The. Punk. Rock.

2. Big Thief at Highland Park Ebell Club on Wednesday, October 4th.

This indie rock band from Brooklyn will steal your heart.

File Under: carefully crafted mini masterpieces

RIYL: Saddle Creek / Good Bands

3. Pinegrove at Echoplex on Thursday, October 5th, The Observatory on Saturday, October 7th and Troubadour on Sunday, October 8th.

This New Jersey guy was meant for the stage.

RIYL: The Decemberists (who sang that song about being meant for the stage)

4. Gorillaz at The Forum on Thursday, October 5th.

I ❤️ cartoonz.

5. The War on Drugs at The Greek Theatre on Thursday, October 5th.

JUST SAY NO to not going to this show.

D.A.R.E. you to not go to this show.

6. St. Vincent at Paramount Pictures Studios on Saturday, October 7th.

This show is part of Red Bull Music Academy Festival Los Angeles.

7. The Flaming Lips w/ Mac DeMarco at Shrine Expo Hall on Saturday, October 7th and Fox Theater Pomona on Monday, October 9th.

Tell everybody waitin' for Superman that they should try to hold on the best they can.

He hasn't forgot them or dropped them or anything.

It's just too heavy for Superman to lift.

P.S. please let Mac DeMarco know this too

8. Cut Chemist & Shortkut at Echoplex on Sunday, October 8th.

It's the 20th anniversary of Cut Chemist and Shortkut's legendary DJ tag team at the Future Primitive Sound Session in San Francisco.

5 turntables.

2 turntables.

1 classic hip-hop record.

See them perform it live at Echoplex!

9. Wolf Alice at Amoeba Music (free show) on Monday, October 9th.

London's Wolf Alice is a beautiful unconventional good band.

If you haven't already, please get into them at your earliest convenience.

Worth repeating: this is a free show!

10. High Waisted at Harvard & Stone (free show) on Monday, October 9th.

High Waisted is a lo-fi surf pop band from Brooklyn.

Think sunny-catchy meets hazy-blazey meets a totally chill time.

Will get you high, wasted.

Rounding Out The Top 20:

Billy Bragg at The Grammy Museum

Slow Dancer at Resident

Chance The Rapper at Hollywood Bowl

Ratboys at Bootleg Theater

French Vanilla at The Smell
