The Wedding Present keeps on giving. - Oh My Rockness

The Wedding Present keeps on giving.

March 29, 2010
The Wedding Present were one of my favorite Britpop/punk bands of the late 80's and early 90's. They reached their pinnacle in 1991 with the Steve Albini produced, Seamonsters. If this album passed you by, it's not too late. It still rocks harder than any 14-year old album should.

The band went their separate ways and did their own thing, notably singer David Gedge's fine band, Cinerama. But, like the new hot trend, The Wedding Present has reunited to play once again. However, one important note about The Wedding Present's new direction: this band's best friend used to be the distortion pedal, now it seems to be strings and woodwinds (well, that one sort of recent album they put out rocked the woodwinds anyway). So take that for what you will.

It's a tough transition for the old fans. But the opportunity to see The Wedding Present live is well worth the price of admission. They may have lost their edge a bit, but if we're lucky, they'll find it again on stage if they choose to rock the inevitable shouted requests.
