Coachella is here.
April 4, 2011
It's Coachella time again! Click that link to see the full line-up of bands playing. And since we can't write about all of them, we spun a bottle and it landed on The Radio Dept. So we're going to write about that band. But again, they are just one of MANY. Go HERE to see for yourself!
Anyway, Sweden's The Radio Dept. have been quietly creating sweet and swirly electro-ish pop since the mid '90s. All of their songs are so radio ready that it's slightly surprising they are still as under-the-radar as they are.
I mean, they're not THAT under the radar... three of their songs were featured on Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette, after all (not that anyone saw that disaster). But within the spectrum of super catchy pop bands with instantly accessible melodies, these guys don't attract too much attention beyond niche.
Honestly, there's really nothing not too love here. It's pop. And everyone loves pop, whether they want to admit it or not. The Radio Dept. is for fans of people like Jens Lekman, Peter Bjorn & John, The Legends, Phoenix, and Belle & Sebastian. Whew.
Coachella is happening Friday, April 15th, and Saturday, April 16th at...well, you know where it's at.
