Sean Nicholas Savage - an excellently eccentric Canadian troubadour.

March 18, 2013
Montreal's Sean Nicholas Savage reminds me of Harry Nilsson. You know him. Sure you do. The "Midnight Cowboy" theme song guy. There you go. Of course there's a lot more to Harry Nilsson than that song. Have you see that excellent documentary about him that came out a few... oh, wait. I'm getting sidetracked. This is about Sean Nicholas Savage. Not Harry Nilsson. I'm straying from the Point (where my Nilsson fans at out there, am I right, hoop-hoop).

Montreal seems to have this eccentro-troubadour situation going on these days. Not a scene. Just a situation. Mac DeMarco definitely fits the situation. So does Pat Jordache. And Sean Nicholas Savage, too. He rocks the weirdo Canada-Americana (Canadacana?), too.

Maybe this is just folk. There are harmonica solos, after all. Or is it just good singer-songwriter pop? I don't know. But I do know that whatever this is, it's weird. And weird is good. You know who else was weird? Harry Nilsson (he made an album that was a fable about a boy whose head was a point and, yes, this came to him during an acid trip, and yes it is awesome). Anyway, I don’t know why I keep talking about Harry Nilsson. Maybe because he was amazing?

Sean Nicholas Savage might be heading toward amazing too. I'm into it. Maybe you'll be into it. Give him a listen below. Decide for yourself. You'll either get it right away or you won't get it. Unless you get it later, of course. Getting is sometimes a process. When it's not spontaneous, of course. Both are valid experiences of getting the get. Everyone is valid. Nothing is wrong. We all rule. Forever.

Sean Nicholas Savage plays the Bootleg, on Friday, March 22nd.
