Jose Gonzalez sings assuredly and strums subtly.

March 18, 2008
Sweden's Jose Gonzalez is an incredibly talented "singer/songwriter" (as much as that term sends shudders down my spine). Armed with an acoustic classical guitar, Gonzalez sings out in a hushed, subtle style similar to Nick Drake and Elliott Smith. Not only does Gonzalez find inspiration in contemporary bands like Cat Power, Jason Molina and Tortoise, but he also taps into the rich Latin sounds of flamenco, bossa nova, and tango.

Like fellow compatriot, Jens Lekman, Gonzalez is already a huge star in Sweden with a Top Ten single to his credit. He's slowly amassing critical buzz and praise here in the States with his eclectic mix of acoustic sounds culled from influences all across the globe.
