Ra Ra Riot make chamber-pop not suck. - Oh My Rockness

Band We Like

Ra Ra Riot make chamber-pop not suck.

April 1, 2008
Ra Ra Riot is a Syracuse six-piece that formed wayyyy back in January of 2006. This is one poppy band, especially when they get the cello and violin action going. But just because they're a band with strings, they shouldn't really be considered, like, chamber pop. They're more just like pop pop.

They've been getting some Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene comparisons, but again, that's mostly because they use strings (they also sound a little similar to Tokyo Police Club and Los Campesinos).

Their music is pleasant, sometimes a little silly, and generally good-natured. And vocalist/keyboardist Wesley Miles sure sounds like somebody I know, but I can't put my finger on whom. If you figure it out, let me know. Regardless, Ra Ra Riot are a feel-good band full of talent that can potentially brighten your night.
