Punker Jay Reatard gets his garage on. - Oh My Rockness

Band We Like

Punker Jay Reatard gets his garage on.

July 21, 2008
Memphis' Jay Reatard (former teenage founder of The Reatards and current member of Lost Sounds) is getting bigger by the day. He just signed to the mighty Matador, and his old label (In The Red) just released a crazy singles compilation that features a ton of his short and crazy songs that were only found on random limited 7"s. The originals go for big bucks on eBay. He's kind of huge now.

Jay plays furiously fun lo-fi no-wave punk (with a dash of rockabilly and garage thrown in, too). Phew! A whole mess of different past musical genres are covered when this guy takes the stage. But Reatard's sampling of these varied sounds really only leads to one singular goal; to make music you can flail all over yourself for.

He plays and sings his short songs in a hurry, and it takes the savvy dancer/thrasher to keep up with his time signatures. Call it breathless-core. Jay Reatard will sure appeal to fans of The Ponys, Wire, Black Lips and Brian Eno.

Get ready for this show. There have been known to be blood, sweat, and even a few tears (depending how hard your head is hit by random foreign objects like elbows, boots and microphone stands).
