There are many good shows this week. But let’s just highlight five of them. It’s better that way. A boatload (i.e. buttload i.e. #breaktheinternet) of choices is often overrated. It only takes one show to change your life, after all. Scroll and browse a bit and that one show just might be staring back at you, waiting for you to make the first move. You gotta be in it to win it.

#1. tUnE-yArDs - The Wiltern - Wednesday - December 10 - 2014 A.D.

#2. American Football - The Fonda - Sat/Sun - December 13/14 - 2014 A.D.

Legendary Illinois emo band American Football have reunited and you have two opportunities to see them play their blissfully nostalgic ennui. Embrace this goodness while you can or you will never forget to remember your regret. Sigh.

#3. College - The Roxy - Saturday - December 13 - 2014 A.D.

Paris knob twiddler College (a.k.a David Grellier) makes ‘80s retro synth magic of the finest kind. You may know the following song from the movie “Drive.” It’s a really good song. And there’s more where that came from - as this was three years ago.

#4. Yusuf Islam a.k.a Cat Stevens - NOKIA Theatre - Sunday - December 14 - 2014 A.D.

This is Cat Stevens’ first American tour in almost 40 years. 40 years! Go see this living legend so that one day you can say you did. To tide you over here is one of the greatest pop songs ever written, NBD.

#5. KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas - The Forum - Sun - December 14 - 2014 A.D.

This thing is still going, huh? The lineup on Sunday happens to be pretty top notch quality (the Saturday lineup - not so much). Alt-J + Modest Mouse + The Smashing Pumpkins + Interpol + Weezer + Tears For Fears + more are playing. Please enjoy this two hour concert by Smashing Pumpkins (before they added the “The” and started to stink) from 1993 - the year they were the best band on the planet and it wasn’t even close.
