Welcome to Whoa My Blobness. R U ready to talk about good shows?

I'll take your digital silence as an enthusiastic YES because here we go…..!

#1. Waxahatchee and Girlpool - The Roxy - Tuesday - April 28 - 2015 A.D.

Two good bands play this one. Philadelphia's Waxahatchee - led by Katie Crutchfield - will play pretty and sad songs off their excellent new album “Ivy Tripp." Openers, Girpool, recently moved to Philadelphia from L.A. WHAT PUNKS. #double #goodness

#2. Sleater-Kinney - Hollywood Palladium - Thurs/Fri - 4/30 + 5/1 - 2015 A.D.

Carrie! Corin! Janet! Punk legends. ALL. Two chances to see the recently reunited Sleater-Kinney this week. You should really take advantage of this opportunity and I should really mind my own business. Kim Gordon's band Body/Head opens the Thursday show - she was a girl in a band - not Body/Head - a different one.

#3. Dan Deacon - The Echo - Friday - May 1 - 2015 A.D.

It's almost impossible not to have a great time at a Dan Deacon show (click that link if you like reading seven-year-old band profiles). The guy conducts himself in a way most conducive to dancing and singing and feeling straight JOY. As good as he is on record Dan is best experienced live because you're an active partner in the party.

#4. Gates - The Roxy - Saturday - May 2 - 2015 A.D.

New Jersey's Gates open this show (Pianos Become the Teeth headline) so get there early and see them because they play pretty close to perfect #emo #post-punk #pop with shimmering guitars and climactic choruses and their album “Bloom & Breathe" was my favorite album of 2014. #great #band

#5. Desert Daze 2015 - Sunset Ranch Oasis - Saturday - May 2 - 2015 A.D.

A whole bunch of bands are playing this fest in Mecca (2 hours and 20 minutes from LA in #current #traffic). DIIV + Dan Deacon + Warpaint + Plague Vendor + White Lung + Bass Drum of Death + lots and lots of goodness. Play this one right and you just might see the oneness of all things by the end. Whoa.

Other notable shows this week = Reggie Watts at El Cid + Matt & Kim at The Fonda + Mastodon at Hollywood Palladium + Milo Greene at The Echo + The Soft Moon at The Roxy + Doldrums at The Echo + Jose Gonzalez at The Regent Theater + Mikal Cronin at Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock + Tennis at Troubadour + The Decemberists at The Greek + Lightning Bolt at The Echo
