If you're ready to talk about some good shows happening in/on/under/around LA this week I'm willing to lead the discussion. It's a good thing I'm around too because this week is INSANE.

#1 Echo In the Canyon - Orpheum Theatre - Monday - October 12 - 2015 A.D.

This KCRW presented festival (there's an early show and a late show on Monday night so that kinda counts as a fest, right?) has all sorts of stars. Beck + Fiona Apple + Cat Power + Regina Spektor + more. And by more, I mean The Wallflowers dude did you know his dad was also a musician? Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the California folk-rock scene, expect to hear renditions of classic tunes by The Byrds, The Beach Boys, The Mamas and Papas and more.

#2 Kurt Vile - The Fonda - Wednesday - October 14 - 2015 A.D.

“Have you heard the new Kurt Vile album?"

“No. But I LOVE it."

-music industry small talk

#3 Deafheaven - The Glass House - Friday - October 16 - 2015 A.D.

It's pretty ironic that Deafheaven, one of the loudest bands in the game today whose shreds have been known to break window panes, is playing a place called The Glass House. Pretty pretty pretty pretttttttty ironic.

#4 The National - Troubadour - Friday - October 16 - 2015 A.D.

The National play two shows at the Troubadour tonight (it's a fest!). It's a benefit for Cooperative for Education and I'm all for learning with others.

#5 CHVRCHES + American Football - Shrine Auditorium - Saturday - October 17 - 2015 A.D.

The new CHVRCHES album is really great. If that song “Make Them Gold" isn't the official Rio Olympics theme song and played during that montage at the end that shows all of the champions in their respective moments of supreme athletic achievement then something is REALLY wrong with the IOC indeed.

Oh, yeah. American Football opens. No big deal.

Honorable Mention: Fartbarf - El Cid - Friday - October 16 - 2015 A.D.

Because with a name like Farbarf it's gotta be good!

Other notable shows this week = Jamie xx at Shrine Expo Hall + My Morning Jacket at Shrine Auditorium + Wolf Alice at The Fonda + Albert Hammond Jr. at The Observatory + Neil Young at The Forum + Best Coast at Hollywood Bowl + Deerhunter at The Glass House + Run the Jewels at Fox Theater Pomona + El Ten Eleven at Teragram Ballroom + Horse Feathers at The Echo + Twin Shadow at The Observatory + Father John Misty at The Wiltern + Gang of Four at Echoplex

Great talking with you as always.

(the following Olympic song was written by Albert Hammond Jr.'s dad and it's a JAM)
