Why are there so many good shows to see this month?

I don't know.

I just blob here.

❤️❤️❤️

40 Super Good Shows To See In LA In August

1. Chastity Belt at Teragram Ballroom on Thursday, August 3rd.

This is one of the best albums of the year so far.*

If you're not into Chastity Belt yet listen to that record and you will be.

And then go see them play songs from it at Teragram.

*according to this music blob

2. Kevin McDonald (of Kids in the Hall) at Largo on Saturday, August 5th.

Kevin McDonald from Kids in the Hall will do something hilarious at Largo.

This I promise you.

So help me blob.

#Canada

3. Viva! Pomona at The Glass House on Saturday, August 5th / Sunday, August 6th.

Two day punk rager at The Glass House.

It's Viva! Pomona time!

Bands playing this day/night dopeness include Chastity Belt * The Coathangers * Sneaks * Moaning * Tall Juan * lots more!

This just might be the one.

4. Belle & Sebastian at Hollywood Bowl on Sunday, August 6th.

Ooh! Get me away from here I'm dying
Play me a song to set me free
Nobody writes them like they used to
So it may as well be me
Here on my own now after hours
Here on my own now on a bus
Think of it this way
You could either be successful or be us
With our winning smiles, and us
With our catchy tunes, and us
Now we're photogenic
You know, we don't stand a chance

5. Priests at Highland Park Ebell Club on Tuesday, August 8th.

Priests is a punk band from Washington D.C. They play protest anthems.

Since forming circa 2011 A.D. the staunchly independent band put out music under their own label ( Sister Polygon) and have played a TON of DIY shows w/ a bunch of dope bands like Screaming Females, Snail Mail, ESG, Pill, Shopping, Downtown Boys and The Julie Ruin to name a VERY few.

They do their own thing and their own thing rules.

6. Yo La Tengo at Burton Chace Park (free show) on Saturday, August 12th.

This is the #2 most popular upcoming show on Oh My Rockness.

It's also free.

The only thing better than free shows is Yo La Tengo.

Hit movies the year YLT formed:

Ghostbusters * Beverly Hills Cop * The Terminator * Karate Kid * Gremlins * Nightmare on Elm Street * Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

7. B-52s at Pershing Square (free show) on Saturday, August 12th.

Here's another free show for you.

Hit movies the year B-52s formed:

Rocky * Taxi Driver * Carrie * All The President's Men * The Bad News Bears * Freaky Friday

8. Alphaville at Starlight Bowl on Saturday, August 12th.

Let's dance in style, let's dance for a while
Heaven can wait we're only watching the skies
Hoping for the best, but expecting the worst
Are you gonna drop the bomb or not?

Let us die young or let us live forever
We don't have the power, but we never say never
Sitting in a sandpit, life is a short trip
The music's for the sad man

Can you imagine when this race is won?
Turn our golden the faces into the sun
Praising our leaders, we're getting in tune
The music's played by the, the madman

Forever young
I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever?

Forever, and ever

9. Sleigh Bells at Theatre at Ace on Saturday, August 12th.

This is a thing happening during the Sundance Next Festival.

Movie screening (Bitch) and a band (Sleigh Bells).

Only at Ace.

Ace is the place.

10. Jimmy Eat World at Hollywood Bowl on Monday, August 14th.

Jimmy Eat World is one of the most underrated overrated rock bands of the last 20 years.

QUOTE ME ON THAT.

11. Washed Out at The Wiltern on Tuesday, August 15th.

We'll always have 2009 A.D.

#chillwave

12. Neon Indian at Teragram Ballroom on Wednesday, August 16th.

We'll always have 2009 A.D.

#glofi

13. Warpaint at Santa Monica Pier (free show) on Thursday, August 17th.

"The only thing better than a free show is Warpaint."

"The only thing better than Warpaint is a free show."

I'm A/B testing those two openings.

14. Lo Tom at Bootleg Theater on Friday, August 18th.

New band featuring David Bazan (Pedro the Lion), Trey Many (Starflyer 59), TW Walsh (Pedro the Lion), Jason Martin (Starflyer 59).

RIYL: Pedro the Lion / Starflyer 59

15. Terry Malts at The Hi Hat on Friday, August 18th.

These California noise poppers released one of my favorite punk records of the year so far.

Get into it at your earliest convenience.

And then go see them play, of course.

16. X at Pershing Square (free show) on Saturday, August 19th.

Punk legends.

FOR SURE.

Free show!

17. Midnight Oil at The Greek Theatre on Saturday, August 19th.

I forgot how much I liked this song.

Please blast this legit pop gem with me right now.

Trigger Alert: might put you in a better mood

18. Melvins at The Echo on Tuesday, August 22nd.

Bring earplugs and nobody gets hurt.

19. Mew at El Rey Theatre on Saturday, August 26th.

If you like this dramatic Danish band....

(and you should - Mew is fantastic)

...then also try giving these unsung dramatic heroes from Norway named Lukestar a spin.

Long broken up, this excellent band never got their due.
