Solids: Melodic Montreal Punk Duo
Written by Patrick McNamara
I’ve said it once. And then I said it again and again and again. And even more times than that. And now I’m saying it again. Canada has been getting all the good guitar bands and IT’S NOT FAIR.
Solids are from Montreal. They are a melodic punk duo that shred. This I know to be true. These two dudes (that’s Xavier over there on guitar - and Louis is on the drums - give ‘em a hand, would ya?) would like to give you a grunge-y crunchy good time. And they do so with feeling. It’s called emotion, man. You can tap into it too. Just blast these guys and watch the sentiment pour from your blood and guts and entire being (i think this feeling is also called “rocking out” by some of the leading music blobs - but I need to Ask Jeeves about that).
The band’s debut album is coming out February 2014 (which, as of this writing, is in the future - but for some of you readers, it might be in the past - whoa - let me know how it all turns out). It's being released by the good folks (never met 'em) at Fat Possum Records (Dinosaur Jr. + Youth Lagoon + Bass Drum of Death + Smith Westerns + The Walkmen + oh just lots and lots of goodness, guys). If I was a betting man, I’d say it’s going to be really good. And I am a betting man. I play poker on my phone sometimes.
By the way, Solids should tour with Ovlov. I’d pay to see that show. And by the way, I SHOULD MIND MY OWN BUSINESS.
Watch this video. As I say - it shreds. And hey, Canada? Stop hogging all the good guitar bands. It’s really not polite. How about getting into the synth-pop game instead? There’s much more opportunity there. They’re the wave of the future. We may even be able to export some synth-pop bands from here to help get you started. I can think of several dozen right now I’d happily ship off to your land. Will you at least think about it? Shhh. Say no more. That’s a deal.
